Padel court dimensions: single and double according to FIP rules

At competitive and federal level, padel is only played in doubles. There are no official 1 vs 1 competitions.
The single court exists, but it is used for amateur purposes or for training in limited spaces.
Below are the measurements and regulatory structure of the double court and the typical configuration of the single court.

1) Double padel court: official measurements

Playing dimensions

  • Length: 20 m

  • Width: 10 m

  • Usable surface area: 200 m²

Walls and fences (correct configuration)

  • Back wall (two short sides): 4 m total

    • First 3 m: glass (or certified solid material)

    • Above: metallic mesh up to 4 m

  • Side walls (two long sides):

    • Section near the back walls – “first two glass panels” (4 m length per side): same as back walls, 3 m glass + 1 m mesh = 4 m total

    • Central side section – “another 3 blocks of 2 m” (6 m length per side): metallic mesh from ground up to 3 m (no glass, height 3 m)

Net and lines

  • Net height: 88 cm at the center, 92 cm at the ends

  • Service line: 3 m from the net

  • Center service line: divides each service area

Recommended clear space

  • Safety perimeter: at least 2 m around: recommended footprint 24 × 14 m

  • Clear height above the court: ≥ 6 m

2) Single padel court: measurements and use

Not approved for tournaments. Used for training or amateur/private use.

Typical dimensions

  • Length: 20 m (same as doubles)

  • Width: 6 m

  • Usable surface area: 120 m²

Walls and fences

  • The same scheme as the double court applies:

    • Back walls: 3 m glass + 1 m mesh = 4 m total

    • Side walls: first sections towards the back walls 3 m glass + 1 m mesh (4 m total), central side section with mesh from ground to 3 m

Net and lines

  • Net height: 88/92 cm (same as doubles)

  • Service lines: 3 m from the net

  • Center line: same as doubles

Recommended space

  • Perimeter can be reduced, but ≥ 1.5 m clear on each side is good practice

Typical use

  • Mobility and precision training, private spaces, beginner schools

3) Materials and characteristics

  • Flooring: synthetic turf filled with silica sand (options: porous concrete/resin where permitted)

  • Glass: tempered and certified (compliant thickness), 3 m high in the designated areas

  • Mesh/fence: certified metal structure, regular mesh, extensions 1 m above the glass in the 4 m sections

  • Lighting: approximately ≥ 200 lux for amateur use; ≈ 500 lux for events

  • Clear height: ≥ 6 m
